Meeting with Oomph! and Echo Award Ceremony on March 12th, 2006 in Estrel Hotel - Berlin

I still can’t really believe it, but it wasn’t a dream. I won the drawing for the Oomph! Echo tickets, I actually met Dero, Flux and Crap and I went to the Echo awards. Meeting Oomph! was extremely exciting for me, and seeing the show was very interesting.
When I typed and sent in my details for the drawing, I would never have dreamed that I would win. Late in the afternoon on March 10th, my cellphone rang (my ringtone is “Brennende Liebe”!!), and when I heard that someone from Gun Records was on the other end, I just about lost it! Of course I was hopeful, but as the nice lady from Gun said that she was calling about the Echo tickets, I had a heat flash and all I could do was stutter. She asked me a few questions and said that she would call back right away. When the phone rang again around 15 minutes later and she told me that I was definitely the winner, I couldn’t believe my luck! She told me that someone from the Promotion Dept. would contact me. I was on pins and needles for the next 2 days, thinking about meeting the band. The call from Gun Records finally came on Sunday afternoon.
Myself and two friends, Mathias and Dirk, drove to Estrel and met the record company people around 4:30 p.m. They gave us t-shirts printed with “Gott ist ein Popstar”, and we put them on right away. Every additional layer was welcome in the freezing weather, and we were especially proud to wear this t-shirt anyway. All hell had broken loose at the hotel, there was deafening screaming from the fans by the red carpet, apparently all Tokio Hotel fans. They screamed their lungs out at every car that drove by.
After a while, Oomph! also drove up in a dark limousine. But the security guards wouldn’t let them through, saying that the invitation for Oomph! had been withdrawn. Even faced with the argument that the invitation for Oomph! to perform had been withdrawn, but not the invitation as guests, the guards wouldn’t budge. So the car stopped there and Dero, Flux and Crap got out and greeted us. They were wearing “Gott ist ein Popstar” t-shirts with a red “Censored” print. Shortly after that, Oomph! walked down the red carpet. While they were greeting press people and fans, we waited with the Gun Records folks in the foyer of the VIP entrance and killed time watching the different celebrities. Finally Dero, Flux and Crap came over to us and we officially received their tickets, which was unbelievably cool! Of course, we got them to sign lots of stuff, took pictures and chatted with them. They took their time with us, and my nerves quickly disappeared as I realized that the guys are really easygoing and very nice. Oomph then took off to their hotel and we went to the show. It was a great feeling to be waved through everywhere with the VIP tickets. Around 6 o’clock we found our seats and the Echo awards began. I would love to have seen Oomph performing on stage, but I had to be satisfied with Shakira, Juanes, Sasha, Tokio Hotel and so on. It was really interesting to be at a show like that instead of just watching it on TV, and it was pretty exciting to sit between the bigger and smaller celebrities and of course the wannabes! After the show, we hung around the lobby for awhile showing off our t-shirts, which provoked lots of looks and whispering.
I would like to take the opportunity here to thank Gun Records for taking such good care of us and Dero, Flux and Crap for the tickets, the t-shirts and most of all for the meeting. Oomph! were really nice to us, which I figured they would be, so having experienced it personally only confirms my ‘fan-for-life’ status with the band. I am so incredibly happy to have won, and I’ll think back on this day for a long, long time to come. Now I’m looking forward to the album and the tour, and I’ll be there in Berlin. Anke
